Abortion Abuse
THIS IS ABORTION ABUSE
The biological father of Jessica’s child put a gun to his head and said he would kill himself if Jessica didn’t have an abortion. THIS IS ABORTION ABUSE.
The personal stories of these five women reflect a shared trauma that millions of women have experienced. That is, being manipulated, coerced, pressured, and forced into abortions they did not want.
Each of these women wanted to keep their child, and yet each woman was manipulated and intensely pressured, almost exclusively by men, to have an unwanted abortion.
Women who are pressured into an unwanted abortion experience the same kind of negative and destructive mental and emotional health issues as women who are pressured into unwanted sex as expressed through the #MeToo movement.
ABORTION ABUSE HURTS WOMEN
In a 2023 survey by the Lozier Institute*, they found that of “more than 1,000 American women between the ages of 41 and 45, including over 200 women who acknowledged having had abortions…that close to 70 percent of the women who had abortions described them as coerced, pressured, or inconsistent with their own values and preferences.”
This survey suggests that millions of women have been pressured and forced into unwanted abortions which undermines the notion that abortion is uniquely a “woman’s choice.”
In other words, women who are pressured into an unwanted abortion experience the same kind of negative and destructive mental and emotional health issues as women who are pressured into unwanted sex as expressed through the #MeToo movement.
However, one doesn’t need to read an academic study to fully grasp the harmful effects of abortion abuse. The deeply painful words shared by Britney Spears 20 years after her abortion convey what millions of women have endured: “To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life."
Stanton Healthcare operates third-party accredited, life-affirming women’s medical clinics which provide women with unexpected pregnancies professional medical care, practical and emotional support, women’s wellness support, and a special outreach to refugee and marginalized communities both in America and internationally.
Tragically at Stanton, we hear stories of abortion abuse on a regular basis from the women we serve. These occurrences are not rare, but instead reflect a common experience of women navigating unexpected pregnancies, and the pain and brokenness of millions of women who endured an unwanted abortion.
Brandi Swindell, Founder and CEO of Stanton Healthcare, shares:
“We believe a day of reckoning is coming for women when it comes to abortion abuse. Our message is clear. Stanton stands with abortion abuse survivors. Forced, coerced, or pressured abortions are abusive and criminal. We are working to ensure the full weight of the law is upheld to protect women and to prevent forced abortions, end abortion abuse and trafficking, and bring abortion abusers to justice."
